My name is Dmitry Zagumennikov, and I am a classical guitarist.
I was born in Russia in 1987 in a small town on the Volga River called Yuryevets. My interest in music started at an early age, but my journey with the guitar didn't begin until I was 11. Classical guitar was a very rare find in my region back then. By sheer chance, I stumbled upon an old Soviet-made guitar at home, originally a seven-string guitar that had been converted into a six-string.
As fate would have it, my neighbor in the apartment building, Vadim Belov, was a guitarist. One day, I approached him, asking for a guitar string. He showed me his guitar and played it for me. I couldn't fathom how he produced such beautiful sounds, but his playing left a profound impression on me, and I asked him to teach me. He agreed. From there, the world of music gradually opened up for me, and lessons with Vadim were exciting and inspiring. A little later, I began participating in children's music competitions, often winning awards.
After four years, the decision to dedicate myself to music took root. I journeyed to Moscow to pursue my professional education, first at the Alfred Schnittke Music College and then at the Gnessin Academy of Music. During this time, the experience itself was the best teacher: the talented acquaintances I made, the exceptional concerts I attended, all had a huge influence on me. I also frequently took part in and won awards at various guitar competitions, both in Russia and abroad.
Upon completing my education in Moscow in 2012, I ventured to Austria, where I studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz until 2014. This period allowed me to immerse myself in European guitar traditions and schools.
In 2014, I moved to Berlin, Germany, where I also completed my master's degree at the world-renowned Hanns Eisler School of Music. Since then, I have primarily been based in Berlin, dedicating most of my time to playing and teaching classical guitar.
